Primary Care is the term used to describe core health services that are usually the first port of call for local people - GPs, Dentists, Pharmacists and Opticians.

CCGs are currently not responsible for commissioning these core Primary Care Services - this is carried out by NHS England.

The CCG Executives and Governing Body work closely with local GPs - who know their patients and local communities well - to commission community and hospital-based care.

However, the CCG does commission some 'enhanced services' from GPs that are targeted at specific groups in the local population.
